Which Insurance Category Do I Need

 

If you’ve come to this page because your insurance company has stipulated that you must have a Thatcham approved tracking system installed before they will give you cover for the theft element of your policy, then The Tracker Man can offer you the solution to your issue.

 

Recent Changes to Thatcham Categories

If this is something you’ve been trying to understand, then you may have come across different classifications such as Cat 5, S5, S5 Plus, Cat 6, Cat 7 and so on.

Category or CAT 5 is now being phased out and replaced by Thatcham S5 and an optional S5+

 

CAT 5 to Thatcham S5

CAT 5 / S5 is the highest level of security tracking you can have for your vehicle.

Tracking systems under this category ensure the absolute security of your vehicle and have features such as;

  • Driver tags or automatic driver recognition (ADR) which will send an alert if the vehicle is driven off by a person other than those authorised by the tags.
  • Level 1 Police Response.
  • Remote vehicle immobilisation (S5+)
  • Immediate tracking of your vehicle by a specialists tracking and monitoring centre who will work closely with the police to recover your vehicle in the quickest possible time.
  • Real time tracking and journey monitoring through an app on your phone, laptop or computer.
  • Plus all the safety features such as mobile tow away and battery disconnect alert.

If an insurance company advises you to have a CAT 5 or an S5 tracking system installed, they are the same thing except S5 will be the new standard.

Prices are for supply and installation Nationwide to any vehicle.

Airtime prices are payable separately once installation is complete and is usually paid annually to the air time provider.

 

CAT 6 & CAT 7 to Thatcham S7

Thatcham S7 is now the new category to what was CAT 6 and CAT 7.

Thatcham S7 vehicle tracking systems offer a range of features from a simple track and locate to products with additional value added features for extra protection of your vehicle, such as;

Motion tow away alert.

Battery disconnect alert.

Movement sensor alert.

Low battery alert

If an insurance company advises you to have a CAT 6 tracking system installed, it is the same thing as the S7 except S7 will be the new standard.
