Description
Thatcham Category S5 is the new classification for vehicle trackers that previously were described as Insurance Approved Category 5.
If an insurance company has stipulated that you must have an S5 tracking security system fitted to your vehicle, then it is because it’s over a certain value and requires the highest protection.
Some insurance companies will call the system CAT 5, while others will stipulate S5.
They are both the same category.
S5 has replaced CAT5 standard but not every insurance company have updated their system to reflect this yet, or retrained their advisors. Some advisors may still be using the old terminology simply out of habit.
S5 is the most secure classification and offers the greatest protection for your vehicle.
Protection of your vehicle under the S5 classification includes:
Driver Tags or Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR)
Immediate alert to you and the tracking control if an unauthorised driver enters the car, attempts to start it, move it by lifting or towing, or disconnecting the battery.
Priority Police response. (Vehicles are typically recovered within one hour)
Visual live tracking on a computer via a web based portal or mobile device via an app.
What is the S5+ Variant?
S5+ offers all the benefits of S5 but with the added feature of being able to immobilise the car remotely.
Remote immobilisation is now no longer mandatory on the S5 classification, however we still have it as an option for those customers who want a little extra.
Additional Costs.
Airtime for tracking is by annual subscription paid directly to the airtime provider after installation.
Typically, these costs are £199.00 per year, or £570.00 for 3-years.
